Kiawah Island Beach Renourishment
East End Beach Renourishment – The Town of Kiawah Island’s East End Beach Renourishment Project began on June 8 and was completed on July 23, 2006. The work was conducted by L. Dean Weaver Construction, Inc. A total of 550,000 cubic yeards of sand was moved in only 53 days. The primary objective was to close an existing beachfront creek and to open a new channel to the east, reestablishing the natural flow of sand to the beach in this area. In addition, heavily eroded beachfront areas from the Ocean Course Clubhouse down to the 16th fairway were renourished with sand. The Town funded the majority of this $3.6 million project with the balance being covered by financial contributions form KIGR (Resort), KDP (developer), and KICA.
